The Other Option
by Kaija West

Seth always tells himself that the reason he’s uncomfortable around Jimmy Cooper is because of the man’s connection to his mother. He thinks it’s weird that the man could have been his father. He doesn’t want to think any further on the subject.

He just let Jimmy in the house to see his mother. Jimmy was as polite and friendly as ever but Seth still can’t shake the weird feeling he gets around him.

Seth thinks back to the holiday party his parents threw three years ago. It was horribly boring and all the kids his age either didn’t come or ignored him. The only person his age that he ever talked to him was Marissa Cooper and that was probably just because their parents were friends. He was sure she didn’t think of him as a friend. He would have been happy to hide out in his bedroom all night but his mom had specifically told him that he had to learn to “socialize with the other kids”. He’d told her he wasn’t a kid and that he didn’t want to talk to any of them anyway. But his mom had been insistent and told him that his bedroom was off-limits for the evening. That was back when she thought he was just shy and needed a little coaxing to start hanging around with the other young people of Newport.

Seth had said his hellos and had been slinking around, bored out of his mind and trying to avoid everyone he could. He was feeling particularly ugly since he was definitely in an awkward stage. He was gangly, and, for the first time in his life, noticeably uncoordinated. He really wanted nothing more than to go hide in his room until all the guests went home, but he really didn’t want to disappoint his parents so he kept walking around through the house, past couples chatting, and groups laughing and several kids his age who threw him funny looks as he bobbed by, largely unnoticed.

Seth had gone to use the upstairs bathroom since the ones on the main floor were occupied. He had walked by his room, looking longingly at the closed door. Sighing he’d walked into the bathroom, banging the door closed behind him in what was just shy of a slam.

Just as he finished peeing the door opened and before Seth could tuck himself away Jimmy Cooper walked in. Well, more like staggered. During his aimless travels around the party Seth had noticed Jimmy making a lot of trips to the kitchen where all the drinks were. Being neighbours, and since Jimmy and his mom were friends, Seth had been to many parties with the Coopers. He’d never noticed Jimmy drinking very much before. Something was up between him and his wife Julie. Seth didn’t know what their problem was but he always got the feeling that Julie didn’t really love her husband. There was something about the way she talked to him, a falseness that Seth never sensed between his own parents. Seth might have been sheltered but he wasn’t stupid. All night Julie and Jimmy had seemed irritated with each other and Seth had figured that was why Jimmy had been drinking so much. He also figured that was why Mr. Cooper had barged through the bathroom door Seth hadn’t thought to lock without knocking.

“Oh, um, Mr. Cooper, I um...” Seth stammered as he hurriedly tried to get himself tucked away. Of course it was that moment when his awkward fumbling made an appearance and his long shirt got in the way.

When he finally managed to get himself back in his boxers he shot a quick glance to Jimmy. He’d been so concentrated with recovering what was left of his self esteem that he hadn’t really noticed the lack of apology from the adult. When he looked up it was clear that Jimmy wasn’t embarrassed and, by the way he’d shut the door behind him, he also didn’t appear to be in a hurry to leave. Seth had noticed the unlike himself, Jimmy HAD remembered to lock the door.

He stopped fussing with the zipper on his pants that refused to become unstuck from where he caught it on the bottom of his shirt. Jimmy was moving toward him and instead of his normal amiable smile he’d had a look of lust in his eyes. Seth had never been on the receiving end of a look like that and he froze. Suddenly the party downstairs seemed very far away.

“Um, uh, so Mr. Cooper, how’s the family doing?” Seth had asked, his voice shaking as he tried desperately to sound like everything was normal.

“Not so great, but then not everyone is,” Jimmy said, slurring a little.

Seth, not really understanding the answer, continued, “And um, how’s Marissa doing?”

By that time Jimmy had moved across the room and was right in front of Seth. He’d leaned closer, trapping Seth between the counter and himself. Jimmy leaned down and roughly kissed Seth, pulling his head forward by a strong hand against the back of the boys neck. Seth let out a muffled squeek as he felt a warm, whiskey tasting tongue slip between his lips. He didn’t know what to do so he just let Jimmy shove his tongue deep into his mouth.

Without breaking the kiss Jimmy had grabbed him by the hips and pulled him up onto the bathroom counter, making them equal height. Seth felt Jimmy’s strong hands going up under his shirt, stroking along his sides. Seth’s hands clutched the counter edge so hard it bit into them.

The tongue in his mouth had started to move slower, then Jimmy had pulled out only to lick gently across Seth’s lips, lightening the kiss. Seth had felt the man licking and nibbling his way along his jaw, slowly making his way under his chin. When he’d felt the tongue, now soft and teasing, tickling his neck Seth had noticed that he was hard. His eyes had popped open for the first time since he’d been unwillingly kissed and Seth looked down to see the back of Jimmy’s neck as the man was working away, licking and sucking at his neck.

Seth wanted to say something but couldn’t find his voice. He’d wanted get off the counter, pull up his pants to hide the obvious erection that was straining to burst through his Batman boxers. He’d wanted to go lock himself away in his room, away from drunken party guests who seemed to think that just because they couldn’t be with his mom HE must be the next best thing. But when Jimmy had put his hand in Seth’s boxers the boy suddenly wasn’t to eager to get away. All thoughts of escaping seemed to vanish as a warm hand encircled his erection.

Seth moaned aloud. Part of him was trying to stay stop but all that came out was a desperate moan. Jimmy’s mouth licked it’s way back to Seth’s lips and as the hand pumped him Seth continued to moan. Even when the warm wet lips met his he still made noises, muffled but no less desperate.

Seth hadn’t really masturbated all that much before. He’d had wet dreams but actually getting himself off on purpose was still a pretty new activity for him. This was similar but so very different. As Jimmy pumped him, Seth felt the man grinding against his leg, thrusting in time with the hand movements. Seth’s hands were still despreately hanging onto the countertop on either side of him. It didn’t take long before the tongue pushing into his mouth combined with the hand stroking him expertly caused Seth to cum. He heard himself grunt as his eyes rolled back in his head and the tongue left his mouth. He leaned forward, resting his head against Jimmy’s shoulder and felt the man grind against him several more times, though not with the even rhythum he had used before when he was pumping Seth.

Thorouly confused Seth was still leaning against Jimmy’s shoulder when he hear the man grunt deeply several times then felt warmness against his leg.

A few moments later Seth realized that he was still leaning against Jimmy and since he was holding the counter, and not the body standing in front of him, when Jimmy started of move he’d fall flat on his face. Seth pushed back and finally opened his eyes, taking a few deep yet shakes breathes. Jimmy was still close and was panting a bit but must have felt Seth moving because he stepped back then. Seth saw the wet spots on Jimmy’s burgundy shirt and, feeling his face turn the same colour, realized that HE’D caused that.

Seth remained seated on the counter as he watched Jimmy move to the sink and grab a hand towel. He watched the man sponge off the shirt and wet spot on his pants, acting as though Seth wasn’t even there.

“Marissa’s fine, thanks for asking. You really should come over some time. I’m sure you two must have a lot in common,” Jimmy said in his usual, friendly tone. He sounded a lot more sober than earlier.

“W-what?” Seth stammered as he finally got off the counter and did his pants up. The zipper glided up effortlessly this time.

“You asked how she was doing,” Jimmy said as though Seth should remember. “Why don’t you come by, you kids can hang out.”

“Uh, yeah, sure,” Seth said, with no intention of doing so.

There was a knock at the door and Jimmy smiled at Seth, the look friendly but kind of blank, as though noting of consequence had happened between the two just moments before. Jimmy opened the door.

“Is everything all right?” Kirsten asked, looking concerned. She noticed the wet spots on Jimmy’s shirt and pants right away.

“Oh, yeah, everything’s fine. I just ... I’m so clumsy tonight. I spilled a drink on myself and Seth was kind enough to bring me up here so I could get some water on it before it stained,” Jimmy said, evenly. Kirsten smiled at him in that way she always did that Seth knew made his father cranky.

Kirsten offered Jimmy some club soda for his shirt and they headed out of the bathroom. She’d doubled back a moment later to tell Seth not to waste time hiding upstairs and come join the party. Seth didn’t move even as he hear his mom and Jimmy talking and laughing as they went downstairs.

Seth devepoled a new kind of dislike for parties and stopped talking to Marissa at all. He never went over to the Cooper’s unless he had his parents with him and then only went he absloutely couldn’t get out of it.

So as he lets Mr. Cooper into the house he tries to tell himself that the only reason he’s uncomfortable around the man is because of the connection to his mother. He doesn’t want to think of the other option.
