"Oooh
God the body on that one. Man what I wouldn't give-"
"What
I wouldn't give for you to knock that off," Deaq interrupted. If
he sounded a bit pissed off he had good reason. Three hours on stake
out staring at a rusted brown door on the side of a grey brick building.
The view was so boring Deaq wished there were graffiti on the barren
surface just so he'd have SOMETHING else to look at. He never thought
he'd see the day he missed spray painted gang signs on walls. There
wasn't even traffic between him and the target. No, all that went on
on the other side of the street - Van's side of the street. He glanced
quickly past his partner through the passenger window. It was a ridiculously
beautiful scene of the beach, the type of picturesque scene usually
reserved for computer wallpaper and postcards. Most times when you looked
at the beach in L.A. the view was interrupted by some little bit of
reality: a vagrant, litter, fat guy in a Speedo. But no, this was a
perfect beach, with a bright white sidewalk in front crowded with hot
young people with perfectly tanned bodies - barely covered.
Deaq
sighed and returned his gaze to the wonderful wall of boredom, noticing
that by the clock on the dash that he had now been sitting there for
exactly three hours and two minutes. For the last, he calculated in
his head, 182 minutes he'd been sitting and watching absolutely nothing.
At the same time Van had been commenting on every hot young girl that
went by on the other side of the street.
Van
had lost the rock-paper-scissors battle for driver's seat that morning.
Deaq had refused to go best two of three and Van had been ticked because
he had really wanted to drive. Deaq realized he should have been more
suspicious when Van had dropped it so suddenly.
When
they had tailed their suspect to the building and made sure there was
only one entrance/exit it had soon become apparent that there was only
one parking spot close enough to see the door clearly but far enough
away to remain unnoticed. It was a one way street so there was just
no way around it - Deaq had been forced to put the car in a position
where he had the view of the boring door on the even more boring building
while Van had a view that could have been the backdrop for the Sports
Illustrated swimsuit edition. In fact, the way Van kept commenting Deaq
was beginning to think there might just be a shoot in progress. All
morning he'd been teasing Deaq with comments and partial descriptions
of the hotties who made their way along the sidewalk and beach, knowing
full well that Deaq could look over but was trying to avoid it so he
wouldn't lose their suspect. The damndest thing about stakeouts was
that the second you let your attention wander things began to happen,
and usually in a hurry.
"Deaq,
you should see it. This one’s got a purple string bikini and a
gorgeous smile. The way she keeps laughing, a giggling and-"
"Well,
I would see it but my so-called partner won't switch seats wit me!"
Deaq had suggested they trade spots after the first half hour but Van
had just shook his head no and held up his first and second fingers,
bringing them together and apart in a scissor motion. "I bow down
to your mighty scissors," he had said reminding Deaq of the earlier
game in which he had beat Van by choosing the scissors. He should have
know the little bastard wouldn't have let go of losing so easily!
Van
heard the frustration clearly in Deaq's voice and decided he had tortured
the other man enough. "Alright, let’s switch then."
Van
quickly, but awkwardly, began to make his way across the car. The console/divider
between the two seats was quite high and he nearly banged his head on
the roof trying to get over it. He had, however, successfully ended
up more or less on Deaq's lap, although he was pinned against the steering
wheel. Deaq tried to get out from under Van and succeeded but not without
some significant contact between his crotch and Van's rear. He could
swear that Van was wiggling a whole lot more than was absolutely necessary
and it was definitely starting to have an effect.
"You
could have gone around," Deaq said, now trying to make his way
over the center console with even more trouble than Van had experienced.
"Nope.
Wouldn't want to spook him," Van replied pointing a thumb at the
building their suspect had entered hours ago. It was true that staying
in the car was the safer bet as far as the stakeout was concerned, but
changing spots with that much body contact was unsafe for other reasons,
mainly that it created other distracting problems.
Deaq
tried to forget the erection all that moving against Van had created.
He looked out the window and ogled all the pretty young things, which
admittedly, was probably not the most effective way to deal with the
problem. Van hadn't been exaggerating much, there really were many fabulous
looking ladies out for the day seeking a tan. But there were also a
few really fine looking men out there too. Deaq watched one zoom by
on a pair of roller blades. Other than a pair of tight cutoff jean shorts
and the skates he was free of clothing. The young man's sculpted, tanned,
body was one that would make anyone with even a casual eye for the males
of the species take notice. Deaq had more than just a slight interest
in men, especially when it came to his partner. He thanked God everyday
that they had both had the same feelings for each other and double thanked
Him that they had discovered this early on. Deaq couldn't imagine how
difficult it would have been to work with Van day in and day out if
he had to hide his interest for him. Yeah, he was damn lucky, but right
now he had a little revenge to play out. While Van had got to him with
a constant running commentary, he knew that the best way to drive Van
nuts was to keep quiet and unresponsive.
He
peeked over at Van to see him totally fixed on the door he himself had
spent so long looking at. The funny thing about Van was when he did
focus on something, that focus was complete. It was eerie how he could
fixate on something so completely. The rest of the time he was usually
going off in three directions at once, but if he could manage to focus
all that energy on one thing, then there was nothing that could distract
him. It had been that way with their relationship, though Deaq still
hesitated to use that term to define it. Relationship always sounded
too close to marriage for his tastes.
Van
had been chasing just about every skirt they came across on the job.
One night, after a few too many beers, they had managed to come out
to each other and Van had admitted that his actions were only partially
fueled by lust. He had figured that things would be better if Deaq thought
he was totally straight. After that night however, he was totally focused
on Deaq. Or so Deaq had thought until this morning with it's running
commentary. The comments, however, had not included a single male mention.
It
had only been a few weeks since that fateful night of confessions so
Deaq knew that boundaries had not been formally set. It hadn't made
him jealous or threatened to hear Van obviously enjoying the "scenery."
It had only irritated him because he hadn't been able to join in. Nope,
he didn't mind Van checking out the ladies one bit. The more he thought
about it Deaq realized that he didn't even much mind if Van wanted to
have sex with a few of them too. He sure wanted to himself and it was
far too early for them to be even considering monogamy.
Now
other men, that was a different story. Just the thought of another man
touching HIS Van made his trigger finger itch. Funny the way he made
such a distinction, but that was just how he felt and Deaq had plans
to bring this up at some point in the near future with Van. He had a
feeling that Van hadn't been with any other guys since they had started
their "thing." Of course there hadn't been much opportunity
since they had been working almost nonstop for the last month. Still,
Van's complete omission of men from the descriptions over the last few
hours couldn't have been an accident. Sure, Van had been trying to tease
him but still, he had to have chosen to remark only on ladies for a
reason. Maybe this was what setting boundaries was all about, maybe
it wasn't the type of thing to talk about outright. Perhaps it was better
to read between Van's lines and follow suit. Deaq decided to restrict
his comments to the ladies as well.
He
glanced at the clock again and noticed with surprise that the better
part of an hour had past. Van was just as fixated on the door as earlier.
Deaq found it unnerving the way Van could be that focused when he really
tried - it was just so different than the other 95% of the time.
"Got
a couple of fine lookin' ladies out there," Deaq said focusing
in on a lovely pair. Matching crop tops and very short shorts accentuated
all the right parts. "Mmm Mmm, now those two must be the next double
mint twins," he said seeing a couple of girls who looked different
enough to have possibly been sisters, but were probably twins with different
hair styles. Deaq continued the appreciative comments going for awhile
but avoided mentioning the men entirely, following Van's lead from earlier.
Seemingly
out of the blue Van interjected, "You want to trade me in?"
Deaq
was clueless as to what Van was trying to say. "What?"
"I
said do you want to trade me in. Would you rather have one of them?"
"Now
why would you say that?"
"Jeez,
I don't know, maybe 'cause you've been talking about them nonstop for
the last 15 minutes," Van said sounding miserable.
Deaq
managed to keep from reminding him that it was Van who had started the
game. Deaq knew from past experience if he said kept quite now he would
get more out of Van than if he asked questions.
"This
whole time you didn't mention one guy, why is that Deaq? Are you trying
to tell me you changed your mind? You don't want to go down that road?
You don't want me?" Van was still watching the door for any signs
of movement. It also made it easier that he didn't have to look Deaq
in the eye when he asked him the questions. Van knew why he hadn't mentioned
any guys when he had been in the passenger's seat. He had barely even
noticed them. Deaq was the man he wanted, no doubt.
Actually
telling Deaq that was another matter.
There
wasn't exactly a Hallmark card that said, 'You're the only guy for me,'
or at least not one that wasn't pink and floral scented. Not that he'd
checked … in three stores … on two separate occasions. Oh
no, he'd never gone looking for that. Yeah right. Still, the way Deaq
had not mentioned one single guy out there had him worried. Van knew
that Deaq didn't have a whole lot of experience when it came to dating
guys. Deaq had admitted to him that he'd had no lasting relationships
with men before Van, just fooling around and a couple of one night stands.
While Van didn't expect flowers from him, he did want some kind of confirmation
that Deaq wasn't just going to go back to acting straight. The fact
that Deaq had only been talking about the ladies had Van worried that
maybe Deaq was trying to tell him he'd changed his mind about things,
about them.
"Van,
look. I'm not about to trade you in. I want this, us. I'm not blind
to the fairer sex though," Deaq said. "I don't think you are
either, right?"
"True."
"Thing
is man, it's apples and oranges."
"Apples
and oranges, huh?"
"That's
what I'm sayin.' They're apples and they're different and that's fine.
Sometimes I like to see a pretty apple, you know. But you're my orange.
Always did prefer oranges anyway," Deaq said realizing how stupid
the metaphor sounded only after it had left his mouth. Luckily Van didn't
seem to mind.
"Okay,
so what about another orange. What if you saw a better looking orange?"
Van asked, risking looking away from the door to Deaq. He knew he was
giving puppy dog eyes but couldn't help it.
Deaq
decided to drop the fruit terminology, it felt just a little too strange
to be calling Van an orange when he was trying to reassure him. Considering
the nature of the conversation though, fruits were not an entirely poor
choice of metaphor. But this was clearly another one of what Deaq had
labeled Van's 'Insecurity Attacks.' He would never call them that out
loud but that what it was and the best way to deal with it was to be
honest with Van. One of the unfortunate side effects of being partners
in undercover work was that they could both easily discern when the
other was lying.
"I've
been staring out this window for more than an hour. I figure about a
hundred of L.A. finest lookin' citizens have passed by. I have yet to
see one I find more attractive than you, guy or girl."
Van
smiled at him. Actually, it was more like he beamed. Then his face fell
somewhat and he switched his attention back to the building he was supposed
to be watching. Deaq had thought he was successful but then he saw the
look on Van's face change quickly and his head snap back into place.
Following Van's line of vision he remembered where they were and who
they were supposed to be keeping an eye on.
"Thanks
Deaq. I guess I still just need to hear it sometimes. Look, I'm sorry
for teasing you earlier. I shouldn't have been trying to distract you
like that, it was stupid. Switch spots with me?"
Deaq
was relieved that Van seemed reassured. They quickly switched spots
again, a little more easily this time. The divider between the seats
was still difficult to navigate though. Once settled Van quickly leaned
over and began opening Deaq's pants.
Looking
away from the door Deaq said, "Uh, Van, not that I don't want to
but is this really the best time for that?" He really didn't want
to stop Van but considering they were on a public street, and on the
job, the timing seemed questionable.
Van
had managed to undo Deaq's belt, unbutton his pants and yank down his
boxers in record time. It would have been easier if Deaq raised his
butt from the seat though, so Van could slide his pants down farther.
Van began gently stroking Deaq's thick, still semi-erect cock.
"The
tint on these windows is really dark you just don't realize it 'cause
it's so bright out. Nobody will see in." Van continued to pump
Deaq, now adding a little more pressure on the up strokes.
"Okay
but, uh, oh yeah," Deaq started, finding speech just a little more
difficult than it should have been. "But we workin' here,"
he finished looking Van in the eyes, pleading with him by his gaze.
He just wasn't sure if it was for Van to stop or to keep going.
Van
abruptly stopped and let go of Deaq. "That's why you're in that
seat. Keep watching, I'll take care of everything else," that said
Van resumed his earlier action and began to reposition himself. He was
eager to get Deaq's cock in his mouth but the car was proving to be
a problem. The damned divider between the seats was huge and Van had
to bend over it at an awkward angle. It sure wasn't the most comfortable
position for him but with a little adjustment Van managed to situate
himself so that he could get full access. This time when he gave Deaq's
pants a little tug Deaq raised himself up a bit so Van could get the
clothing more out of the way.
"Shit,"
Deaq heard Van say. Then he felt him wiggling around searching for something
in his jacket.
"What?
What is it?"
"Ah
ha!" Van said triumphantly finding what he had been looking for.
A moment later Deaq felt Van roll a condom on him. Van had been very
insistent that they always use protection. They had both gone to get
tested, though not together, last week. Deaq had been surprised how
serious Van was about being careful. Van had briefly mentioned he'd
had a scare a few years back. The more Deaq considered it he thought
Van was right, and by the time he had gone to get tested for any STD's
he'd been feeling rather stupid (and a touch nervous) for not being
more careful in the past.
Van
quickly covered Deaq's erection with his hot mouth. Deaq groaned aloud,
totally unable to stop the reaction. Van knew how to give really good
head and put everyone else Deaq had ever experienced to shame. He could
feel Van sucking just a little harder on the up stroke. Deaq always
meant to remember the details so he could do the same for Van but seemed
to forget them after. He actually felt a little embarrassed that he
couldn't do as good a job as Van when it came to oral sex. He knew that
lack experience was the cause but that didn't seem to bother Van. Van
had even said once how much he liked "The Deaq Technique."
All that was was Deaq trying different things like changing pressure,
tempo and angle until he got the most positive sounds moaning from Van's
lips. It was more like lack of technique Deaq thought but he felt he
was getting better. If only he could remember how Van was doing this
when he returned the favor later.
Deaq
stared at the blank wall and the still unopened door. It didn't look
any more interesting than it had earlier but he no longer minded in
the least. Without thinking about what he was doing, Deaq threaded his
hands through Van's long hair. He began guiding Van's head up and down.
Apparently this was a wrong move because Van stopped and tilted his
head towards Deaq's face. Deaq looked down at him wondering what the
big deal was. It wasn't like he'd never done that before and he certainly
hadn't been forcing Van's movements.
"Don't
do that now Deaq," Van instructed, his voice much deeper and rougher
than usual. As a result of his strange position draped over the seat
divider the extra pressure of Deaq's hands on his head had really hurt
ribs. As it was he wasn't sure how much longer he could keep his body
in such a strange contorted position. "Since you're sitting in
the driver's seat why don't you grab the wheel instead."
Deaq
realized where he was seated in the car but Van was making it plenty
clear who was in control right now. Grabbing the steering wheel like
Van had said he couldn't help but make a little comment, "Backseat
driver."
Van
wasn't about to reply since his mouth was busy with more important things
than witty comebacks. Deciding that his ribs couldn't take too much
more of the damned console thing digging into him he decided to speed
things up a bit. Taking a last deep breath through his nose, Van deep
throated Deaq. He was rewarded with a deep groan of pleasure. After
a few more thrusts Van began to swallow when Deaq's cock was at its
deepest point in his throat. It was thick enough that this was not really
very comfortable for Van but the reaction made it well worth the effort.
Deaq came hard, bucking just a little up into Van's mouth, his knuckles
almost white from gripping the steering wheel so hard. Van continued
to suck on the softening cock, but with much less pressure and depth.
When
he was finished Van straightened up a bit to take the pressure off his
side. He removed the condom from Deaq and grabbed a handful of tissues
from his pocket and cleaned him up. Upon sitting right upright Van realized
that his ribs were really sore where he had been draped over the divider.
When he took a deep breath they twinged like he had been hit with a
baseball bat there. He knew the feeling having had that happen before
a few years back. He didn't think they were cracked this time so that
was good.
He
looked over at Deaq and saw he was totally relaxed and still looking
out the window for their suspect. Van would never have forgiven himself
if their little activities on the job ever caused them to lose a suspect.
He trusted Deaq to be able to remain attentive while enjoying a little
pleasure. Van wasn't sure if he would have been able to keep watch if
their places had been reversed. He found an empty fast food bag on the
floor from earlier that day and deposited the condom in there along
with the tissues.
"Don't
you just hate the taste of those things?" Deaq asked both wanting
to know the answer and still unsure what to say to another guy after
sex.
"I
went and got flavoured ones. Forgot to tell you."
"They
much better?"
"Yeah,
I don't taste like I've been chewing on a balloon all day."
"So
what flavor was that one?"
Van
realized that he hadn't even noticed, just that he had enjoyed not being
distracted by the usual gross taste. He reached for the little empty
package which he had dropped on the floor earlier. With a slight laugh
at the irony Van told him, "Orange."
Epilogue:
That night back at the Candy Store:
"So
let me go this straight. You waited for four hours and when he came
out he didn't have anything with him. Then you tailed him back to his
house. Is that right?" Billie asked.
"Yep
that's it," Van replied.
"So
you didn't interact with him at all?"
"No,
like we told yea' we just followed. S'what you told us to do this morning,"
Deaq answered defensively.
Turning
to Van, Billie asked, "Then what the hell happened to you?"
She had notice the way he was crossing his arms over himself and she'd
figure he must have been kicked in the ribs or something in a fight
with the suspect.
Van
paused for moment, trying to come up with a reasonable excuse. He was
eager to get home so he and Deaq could finish what he'd started earlier,
this time without any distractions. He decided to just tell her the
truth, well part of it anyway. "Oranges," he said and slipped
out of the office.
